Welcome to the UC Berkeley Family & Culture Study Lab!
Our lab examines the roles of context (culture, family, school, and neighborhood) and temperament in the development of competence and maladjustment from early childhood to young adulthood, with a particular focus on children and youth of immigrant families. Graduate students in our lab explore research topics such as the links between bilingual and socioemotional development in dual language learners, the roles of acculturation and parent-child acculturation gaps in children’s adjustment in immigrant families, and the the links of neighborhood characteristics to parenting and children’s behavioral adjustment.
